London is of course of the most famous and therefroe most visited cities in the World. With an amzing array of sights, museums, parks, heritage sites and much mush more.

London is the capital City of England and the UK. It is located in South East England on the River Thames and is a thriving commercial, banking and economic centre. The actaul 'city centre' of  London is relatively small, still having its medieval boundaries but it is home to most of the sites that visitors will want to see.

London itself is a vast size with a population of over 8 million and it is circled by the notorious M25, a motorway that was a fantastic costruction feat when commissioned. It is some 120 miles round, crossing the river at Dartford.

For over 2000 years London has been an important centre for trade and culture. The Romans named it Londinium. It was an important trading port. Over time its influence has blossomed and it is of course not only the trading capital of the UK, but the political one. It is culturally important and will host the 2012 Olympics.

London is also home to a number of top footballing teams and is also home to Wembley Stadium where England won the 1966 World Cup. The stadium has recently been totally rebuilt and now features a distinctive arch in its design.

London has four World Heritage Sites, The Tower of London,  the historic settlement of Greenwich, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew to the west of London and the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church.

London has one of the most comprehensive transport systems anywehere in the world with the London Underground tube railway running beneath the City, an baove-ground rail network with hubs at Waterloo, Kings Cross, Paddington, Euston and Liverpooo St. These stations serve destination North, South East and West of the capital. London also has 2 airports, Heathrow to the west, Gatwick to the South with Heathrow being the busiest airport in the world.

Londons history goes right back to the tribes of Queen Bodica, The Roman invasion and the invasion by William the Conqueror at Hasting in 1066. The Tower of London was built by William who was crowned on Christmas Day in 1066. Other notable events in Lodons History were the Bubonic plague and The Great Fire of London in 1666. The Blitz carried out by the Germans killed over 30,000 Londoners and destroyed large areas of housing and other buildings across London.

London has many fabulous landmarks for you to visit. The Tower of London complete with its ravens and Beefeaters is always a favourite. Legend has it that as long as there are ravens in the Tower, England will never be conquered. The Tower is located right next to Londons premiere bridge, Tower Bridge which is regularly opened to allow boats to pass through.

The finacial heart of the City, Threadneedle Street, where the Bank of England resides is not far from here, just a short ride by bus, cab or tube. Westminster and the Houses of Parliament is just along the river. For a spectacular view of the London skyline, try out the London Eye.

For those who have an interest in things Naval, HMS Belfast is open to the public and moored on the Thames near Tower Bridge. The Cutty Sark, that was ravaged by fire is undergoing restoration and there is a small souvenir shop. Greenwich is a world heritage site.

London of course is home to The Queen. Bcukingham Palace in all its spleandour attracts many millions of visitors throughout the year with the ever popular 'changing of the Guard' a regular sight.

There are many famous tourist spots including:- The Natural History Museum, The Tate Gallery, Madame Tussauds, The Imperial War Museum, Picadilly, Trafalgar Square, Petticoat Lane, St Pauls Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Leicester Square (Theatreland) and for shopping addicts there is Oxfors Street.
