Paris is of course the capital City of France. It is located on the River Seine in Northern France and includes tow islands, the Ile de la Cite and the Ile Saint-Louis. The Jardin des Plantes, created by Louis XIII's doctor Guy de La Brosse for the cultivation of medicinal plants, was Paris' first public garden.

Paris' largest opera houses are the nineteenth-century Opera Garnier and modern Opera Bastille. Thes feature bith classical and modern operatic works. Theatre traditionally has occupied a large place in Parisian culture.
